We've all heard the saying, "If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes." But I've discovered that the true leader of the team isn't the lead dog. The ultimate leader is back in the sled, they are the one with the vision and execution strategy.
This doesn't mean that there aren't times when the leader is up front running with his/her lead dogs and showing them the way, it simply means that being a great leader is about servant leadership.The race for which the Iditarod began was first run back in 1925. It was a mission to get life-saving serum from Anchorage to Nome in the dead of the Alaskan winter. It took innovative thinking as well as courageous leaders to forge the path and make history across dangerous terrain.
As a consultant Michael was a top producer for his firm. As a Leader, he was coming face to face with the reality that the skill of running a team is a different dynamic than producing results on his own.
Having been fascinated with the Iditarod Great Sled Race, termed the last great race on Earth, Michael decides to find a mushing adventure of his own. It would take him to the northern reaches of the western hemisphere and to the edges of himself.
There he would learn about Life, Leadership, mushing, gaining the will to persevere and unleashing the power of the team!
