So, when is tomato not a tomato?
Well according to the definition above... a tomato is by definition a "tomato." A tomato is only "not a tomato", when it's something else... like a "potato" perhaps...

How does one grow grow a great tomato?

There are certainly many ways to grow and produce tomatoes and quite a variety of tomatoes themselves. Consumers have different "favorites and taste preferences and uses" for the many and broad diversity of varieties... And, certainly "production" results vary broadly... that is as to the quality of the resulting  tomatoes that will be produced... for goodness sake, even the pronunciation of "tomato" varies: toe - may- toe or toe-maw-toe, etc.

But, at the end of the day, a tomato is indeed a tomato.

So, what do "tomatoes" have to do with publishing and books?

Well, everything actually!~ Seems that everyone has an opinion these days as to defining "what is a book"? -and, regarding what makes a good one... Well, as the article quoted above suggests in relation to growing great tomatoes, producing a great book requires similar principles!:
  1. variety: genre, uniqueness of message, method of access to intended audience
  2. planting: well developed strategic business plan for each project, compelling design & layout, careful attention to selection of topic, creation of quality content (including enlistment of the help of expert editing/writing coach, etc), method of production/way that reader will experience your writing/content, author platform development, marketing & distribution
  3. ongoing care: nurturing your platform and ongoing engagement with "your tribe" of readers, improvement of the work in succeeding editions, creation of different product options & ancillary products
Whether you seek to be "traditionally published", publish independently, professionally self-publish, utilize a "subsidy press", or use one of the many DIY (do-it-yourself) options that are available today... the best results will be always be found in careful attention to following best practices and with the ultimate objective in mind - sharing your unique message with those most likely to benefit from it and enjoy it... in the form of your published book!~
