Goals & Objectives for 2010 ~ My "3 Words"

Here’s to a Great New Year 2010- New Decade!

Like many others this past week, I have been busy  putting together my "resolutions", goals, objectives for the coming year. These include Spiritual, Family, Personal, Business, "Wants"...

I have used many "methods" over the years, and like many have also "failed" to check-off everything on "the list" when doing the end-o-year assessment. I also both admire and chuckle at the "over organized" among us that "always have a perfectly 'clean desk' but also, who often don't seem to get nearly as much done as us 'messies'..." They are too busy organizing. : )
Bottom line, whatever method works for you IS the best one...settle on a method and do it. That seems to work pretty well. -that, along with being flexible enough to adjust to the many changes in our world, that are happening right before our eyes, and in real time...
This past year I became a "follower"... -that is as related to learning from scratch, the many new ways that our world connects, relates, and communicates. This of course, affects every "objective/goal area."
This year, I am trying out a "new way" to organize my objectives and plans for the year. To put it modestly, Chris Brogan has a lot of "followers." And, he leads by example with class, expertise, and generosity. Seems like a good guy to follow...

The "new plan"
My 3 Words for 2010, Chris Brogan

“Setting goals is what January 1st is all about. Over the last few years, I’ve practiced something I call “my 3 words,” where I come up with three words that I use as guidance for how I should conduct my efforts in the year to come.”

How You Can Set Your Own Three Words
-"What will your 3 words be? How do you choose?
Pick three words that help you the way a lighthouse helps a ship in a storm. Give yourself a word that guides you towards a powerful new opportunity, and that keeps you focused on what comes of this year. Use these words as starting points for tangible goals, SMART goals that can be measured and have dates to accomplish tasks by. These words sit above the actual goals, and set your guiding principles in place."

My 3 Words for this Year

Honesty
Honesty and Transparency are words that get tossed about quite a bit. And, the practice of 'honesty & transparency' can be both constructive and destructive. -must be used with wisdom and timing. But, I view it as a 'must do' practice and over-riding principle.
“Honesty is the best image.” -  Ziggy
“Honesty: The best of all the lost arts” - Mark Twain

“Whatever games are played with us, we must play no games with ourselves, but deal in our privacy with the last honesty and truth” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Humanity
I see this as both being self-aware, that is aware of personal limitations or 'personal blemishes' while being highly expectant of expanding ones personal achievement. And, as related to others, it is the awareness of being part of a 'greater whole' and being accountable to that greater whole.
“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”- Ryunosuke Satoro
“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”- Albert Einstein
“The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” - Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy
Value – Significance
This is about seeking value, and sharing value. As, I said, I have become a "follower." This affects all things personal and business.
Traits that are apparent and that the "leaders" all share:
They

  • are personal
  • are collaborative
  • value, seek, & provide expertise
  • generously share their knowledge and best practices
“What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.” - Oscar Wilde
“Until you value yourself, you won't value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.” - M. Scott Peck
“Authentic values are those by which a life can be lived, which can form a people that produces great deeds and thoughts.”- Allan Bloom
“Ideas of superiority and inferiority arise only in a heart corrupted by egoism. If someone argues that he is higher or his religion is holier, it proves that he has missed the significance of his faith.” - Sri Sathya Sai Baba
“Significance is seeing your true worth through God's eyes.” -Robert S. McGee
Objectives- Guiding Principle “Haves” for 2010
  • Spiritual surrender and focus
  • Personal Balance
  • Humor, Fun
  • Relationship Based
  • Health-Fitness
  • Build Client Value
  • Establish Business Stability & Growth
